In a world where information spreads faster than ever, the ability to distinguish facts from misinformation has become an essential skill. MediaWISE YOUth – Skilled & Engaged: Stand Up To Disinformation! was an Erasmus+ Youth Worker Mobility project designed to empower youth workers with the knowledge, skills and practical tools needed to recognise, analyse and respond to fake news, misinformation and manipulative online content.
Through non-formal education, interactive workshops and hands-on learning activities, the project strengthened participants' media literacy, critical thinking and digital awareness. Participants explored how fake news was produced and disseminated, identified the motives behind misinformation, and learned how to navigate today's complex digital information environment more responsibly.
What Did Participants Explore?
During the mobility, youth workers had the opportunity to:

Explore the mechanisms behind the creation and dissemination of fake news and misinformation.

Identify key actors, promoters and motivations behind misleading information.

Reflect on the role of youth organisations and youth workers in addressing discrimination and radicalisation fuelled by misinformation.

Develop skills to critically assess media content and distinguish factual reporting from biased or manipulative propaganda.

Discover social media fact-checking tools and practical digital literacy strategies.

Explore how social media could be used responsibly for youth activism, civic participation, advocacy and positive social change.

Exchange experiences and good practices with youth workers from different countries.

Develop ideas for local civic engagement initiatives in cooperation with partner organisations.

Learn more about the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ Programme and its role in promoting youth participation and active citizenship.

Develop new Erasmus+ project ideas to support long-term cooperation, sustainability and impact beyond the mobility.
One of the key outcomes of the project was the creation of a practical Toolkit, reflecting the learning methods, tools and activities used throughout the project. The Toolkit was developed as a useful resource for youth workers and organisations interested in strengthening media literacy and combating misinformation.
An International Learning Experience
The project brought together 25 youth workers and trainers from Austria, Hungary, Türkiye and Georgia, creating a dynamic international space for learning, dialogue and cooperation.

By bringing together different perspectives, experiences and local realities, MediaWISE YOUth contributed to building stronger and more resilient youth work practices against disinformation.
Together, the participants explored how youth workers could become not only more critical and responsible consumers of information, but also active multipliers in their communities—supporting young people to think critically, participate actively and contribute to a more informed, inclusive and democratic society.
